I turn half-formed ideas into software people actually use.

JB de la Garza is a digital product consultant in Austin, Texas. He designs and ships custom web apps, marketing websites, and AI-assisted internal tools for founders and small teams, handling product strategy, UX, and delivery himself instead of handing you off to an agency bench.

Services

What I build

I offer four services: custom web application development, marketing website design and build, AI consulting and automation, and fractional product management. Most engagements start with a paid discovery sprint and move into a fixed-scope build.

Custom web apps

Dashboards, internal tools, and customer-facing products. I scope the build, design the flows in Figma, and ship a working application, not a slide deck about one.

  • Product & data modeling
  • UX/UI design and prototyping
  • Build, QA, and launch

Websites that get found

Fast, accessible marketing sites built so both Google and AI assistants can read them. Structured data, clean semantics, and copy written to be quoted.

  • Answer Search Optimization (ASO)
  • Schema markup & technical SEO
  • Cloudflare / edge deployment

AI consulting

Where AI actually saves your team hours, and where it is a distraction. I audit the workflow first, then build the narrow tool that pays for itself.

  • Workflow audit & opportunity map
  • Internal assistants and automations
  • Getting your brand cited by AI search

Fractional product management

For teams with engineers but no product owner. Roadmap, backlog, sprint rhythm, and the hard prioritization calls. A few days a month.

  • Roadmap & backlog ownership
  • Agile sprint facilitation
  • Stakeholder & GTM alignment

DoorCheck

Founder · 2024–present

doorcheck.app: K-12 door safety inspection platform

DoorCheck is the point solution SchoolCheck grew out of: a focused platform for school districts to log, track, and manage door safety inspections. Built around state door audit requirements, from market research through Figma design, build, and district onboarding.

  • 0→1 product
  • Compliance workflow
  • Sales demos

Yelloball

  • Web app
  • Product design
  • Fixed scope

About

Product judgment, not just build hours

I'm JB de la Garza. I've spent 17 years on both sides of software, selling it, then building it. That combination is the whole pitch: I've sat in enough sales calls to know which features close deals, and run enough sprints to know which ones are worth the engineering time.

Most of my work now is founder-stage. Someone has a real problem, a rough idea of the solution, and no product person. I come in, pressure-test the idea, design it, and ship it. You work with me directly the whole way.

Common questions

Straight answers

What does a digital product consultant actually do?

A digital product consultant helps a business decide what software to build and then gets it built. That covers validating the idea, defining scope, designing the user experience, managing the build, and launching it. JB de la Garza works as a solo consultant, so the person who scopes your project is the person who delivers it.

Who do I work with?

I work with founders, small businesses, and teams that have engineering capacity but no dedicated product owner. Typical clients are pre-seed to Series A startups, and established small companies that need an internal tool or a customer-facing web app built properly.

How much does a project cost?

Pricing depends on scope. Engagements generally start with a paid discovery sprint that produces a fixed-price proposal for the build, so there are no open-ended hourly bills. Fractional product management is billed as a monthly retainer. Book a 30-minute call for a specific number.

What is Answer Search Optimization (ASO)?

Answer Search Optimization is the practice of structuring a website so AI assistants like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews can read it and cite it when someone asks a related question. It relies on plain HTML text, clear question-and-answer sections, and structured schema markup, not keyword stuffing. I build every site this way by default.

Where is JB de la Garza located?

JB de la Garza is based in Austin, Texas, and works remotely with clients across the United States. Local Austin clients can meet in person.

How long does a typical project take?

A marketing website typically takes two to four weeks. A first working version of a custom web application typically takes six to twelve weeks depending on scope. Discovery sprints run one to two weeks.
